Day 6 – Roanoke, Virginia

We finally arrived at what I have called home most of my life. Welcomed by the Roamoke star a symbol that I never really appreciated when I lived here.

We had lunch up by the star at one of the many picnic tables. Enjoying look over the beautiful city of Roanoke down by in the Valley.

The area around the star had changed so much since the last time I was here. They have added new roads and new patches to explore. Of course the zoo is still at the top of the mountain, but now there are gardens and a discovery center. In addition they added new paths, playgrounds and new over looks of the city. There is lots of trails and places to ride bikes up in this area.

Just beyond the entrance to the star is the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway. We did not get to go on the parkway this trip, because of flooding parts of the road had been closed off.

We found a nice campground at Dixie caverns. Review to follow later. The Caverns appear to be closed now due to Covid 19.

Dinner cooked on the grill was amazing.

We will be staying in Roanoke one more day, before we head out to Ohio to see more family. Stay tuned to see what adventure we find today.
