What has been your experience with Camping since the Pandemic?

I saw a post on Facebook today that inspired me to write this article. I was wondering how others experiences have been while out camping since the pandemic.

Having just returned from a two week adventure across the USA, I could not believe some of the comments I was hearing from this post. Yes, RV sales have gone through the roof in the last 6 months, but on our adventures we did not see the negative things that were referred to in this post. The comments that were most disturbing to me were how the crime rate has increased, how those who have brought campers have decreased the quality of camping in general. Comments referred to how many of these new RV owners will grow bored with camping and quit after the pandemic is over. I am just not sure how much of this true.

We stayed at 4 separate campgrounds, 2 Harvest Hosts, boondocked in a Walmart parking lot and in a rest area, and did some moochdocking at my sisters house. We had a great experience. We did not see any crime or experience any issues with others in general on our adventure. In fact it was for the most part quite the opposite experience for us.

At every campground we went to people were friendly, waving as you walk by and making you feel comfortable. Keeping there distance while still making you feel welcome.

In Arkansas we have one couple in the camper next to us who helped us get set up and even invited us to dinner. Another camper at that same campground moved their RV after we arrived so that they blocked their site. We knew this meant that did not want to be friends, so we left them alone.

At the Harvest Hosts we were alone. We enjoyed this too, but our favorite part of the Harvest Hosts was the being out in nature at night and seeing the stars and enjoying the wildlife around us. It was peaceful and quiet there. We loved that!

Prior to buying our travel trailer, we had been tent camping. We decided to upgrade to travel trailer because it was becoming hard for us to get up and down off the ground due to our age. We wanted to continue camping but make it easier for us to enjoy our adventures.

So I guess my question to you is: What have your experiences been during the pandemic? Do you think the crime rate in campgrounds will start to increase with more and more sales or Will campgrounds continue to be safe places to stay?

Please like, comment, follow and share your adventures.

Welcome to freedom and living the dream?

  1. We love having our travel trailer; we bought it in October 2018. Most people are friendly in campgrounds. We will have to see what happens after Covid. Some of those that bought because of Covid will move on, but some will stay with RV life. Hopefully, just the friendly and courteous. 🙂 Enjoy the day!
