Last weekend we decided to head to Port Aransas to take a drive on the beach and go swimming. Its a two and a half hour drive from our house, but we love that we can drive out on to the beach and usually find our own little peace of heaven, away from every one else.

On the way to Port Aransas we stopped in Port Mansfield to see if we could find any beach access there. Unfortunately, there was no place to drive on the beach or go swimming that we could find.

Port Mansfield is more known for their fishing. They have a large marina there with lots of boats and several small campgrounds. Also, Lots of houses and condos along the water. Not sure if any of them are for rent or not. The deer roam right out into the streets there and are not even afraid of people and cars.

We also found a nice recreational area with piers and parking places just for day fishing. This area is totally free and well maintained.

From here we headed on to Port Aransas looking forward to a nice relaxing afternoon on the beach. When we start up the road from Corpus Christi over to Port Aransas we started noticing cars parked on the side of the road at the beach access points. We had no idea what this was all about until we got to the main beach access and found it to be blocked off to vehicles. You could walk from there to the beach but no vehicles beyond that point. This wasn’t stopping most people. The streets were lined with cars and people walking to the beach.

We decided at this time not to go out on to the beach. Our thoughts were that people are only going to walk so far and that it might not be safe on the beach with so many people all bunched up into one area. We will attempt to go back again as soon as we are sure they have opened the beaches again.

After that we went back to Corpus Christi picked up some lunch and found a place to park along the bay. Our spot was very isolated. Here we could see others fishing and the boats cruising by on the bay, along with soaking up the sun. No place to get into the water though.
